Renew + HIU
In partnership with Hope International University, Renew is offering accredited college and seminary classes that are fully transferable to local colleges.
Our vision is to equip Christian students by offering a hybrid experience where students can take Christian courses while fulfilling elective units for their secular college.
Meet the Faculty
Wilson Wang, MA
Lead Pastor of
Renew Church
-
In 5th grade, when other kids were dreaming about becoming an astronaut, firefighter or teacher, I thought, one day I want to start a church and I'll have a sign that says: "for imperfect people only." That sign sits at the front door of Renew Church OC and comforts everyone who walks in as well as myself.

Curtis Lowe, DMin
Instructor: Spiritual Disciplines
-
Curtis B. Lowe recently retired after 37 years of pastoral ministry. He began in Youth Ministry and Christian Education, but the majority of his service to the Lord was as a lead pastor for three unique and special congregations. His passion in ministry is in shepherding the Lord’s flock through personal relationships, Bible teaching, discipleship, and training of leadership. The Lord’s call to him has included many personal and ministry related trials, yet it was (and is) through these that God has drawn
Curtis into a deeper walk with greater love and joy. As one with firsthand experience he has seen the vital necessity of suffering, surrender and faithful discipline as foundational for spiritual formation and transformation.
He has been married to his best friend Carol for 38 years, and they have three grown children and a dog.
He enjoys time with family and friends, coffee-roasting, gardening, and watching his favorite sports team working hard as a team, win or lose.
He has a B.A. in Psychology, San Diego State University; M. Div., Bethel West Theological Seminary; D. Min in Spiritual Formation, Azusa Pacific University; and is a Certified Spiritual Director. Carol and he cofounded Enlighten Mental Health Ministries with the Chinese Christian Church of Thousand Oaks, CA.
Zachariah Zienka, MA
Instructor:
Old Testament Survey
-
Zach currently teaches high school Bible classes at Southlands Christian School. He was previously a pastor for 8 years before moving into the academic world. Zach has his Masters in Old Testament from Talbot School of Theology and his Masters in Theological Studies from Liberty University. He has a love for guiding others through the difficulties of the Old Testament and discovering the character of God within those hard texts. When he isn't nerding out to the Hebrew language and textual criticism, Zach can be found playing Spikeball on the beach, watching Formula 1 races, and playing video games with his wife Alexa.
David Johansen, MA
Instructor: Theology
-
David Johansen received his BA and MA in human communication studies from Cal State Fullerton. While at CSUF, he taught introduction to communication studies and public speaking classes. He currently resides in Fullerton, CA, and works as a faculty website coordinator for Santa Ana College’s School of Continuing Education.
For more than fifteen years, he has been studying apologetics and theology and has been writing blog posts and podcasting on them for over five years. His goal is to equip students, young and old, with a better understanding of what they believe, confidence that they have good reasons to believe it, and the skill to communicate it effectively."
